The Rings of Power is a dramatic retelling of the major events that led to the main storyline. The famous characters of Elrond and his wife Galadriel; the lady of Lorien are young and not yet married to each other, Gil-Galad is not yet famous, the Kingdom of Numenor has not yet fallen and most importantly, the Sauron; the enemy has not yet made the famous rings of power.

The series stars Morfydd Clark as the young Galadriel, yet she is unable to bring out the dignity and holiness inherent in the elven queen as shown by Cate Blanchett. Instead, she is shown to be brash and reckless with a warlike mentality. The acting of several actors is not able to catch the essence of their characters which ruins the whole experience.

The manuscripts by Tolkein have shown that the Numenorians before their fall were arrogant, greedy, and prideful. This led to Ilu damning them and destroying Numenor. Still in the series, everyone is shown to be good and at no point are they punishment worthy.

Sauron is not yet properly shown either as a Dark lord or as Annatar the Lord of Gifts. His historic scheming that led to the fall of Numenor and the makings of the nineteen rings of power are not yet shown. I look forward to the rest of the series and the making of the One Ring on Mount Doom, hoping it will be a good showing. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

The much anticipated series is produced by Amazon Prime and is as much a disappointment as the rest were thrilling.
